Ben co-founded Project Fire after leading fire engineering teams at some of New Zealand's largest and most established consultancies, working across a broad range of project types and scales, from major commercial towers, hospitals and mixed-use developments to small, targeted fitouts. That range has shaped his view that every project deserves the same level of care, whether it's a 20+ storey tower or a single-suite fitout.

Prior to co-founding Project Fire, Dushyant spent over a decade leading fire engineering teams through complex, multidisciplinary projects from concept through to building consent, with deep experience across commercial, industrial, and residential sectors, including large-scale commercial developments, hospitals, correctional facilities, shopping centres, hotels, and educational facilities. He has worked closely with consenting authorities, including direct liaison with council teams on technical fire engineering matters, giving him a practical understanding of what gets projects through consent efficiently.

Our approach is to solve with clarity and clear intention.

Our approach is to solve with clarity and clear intention.

Good fire engineering is about more than documentation and compliance. It’s about understanding complexity early, communicating clearly and finding practical solutions that balance regulatory requirements with the wider ambitions of the project. Every recommendation is made with purpose, helping project teams move forward with confidence while protecting the original design intent.

Services that support the project from early strategy through documentation.

Fire Engineering Design

Clear strategies for compliant, buildable outcomes.

Whether your project suits a prescriptive pathway (C/AS2) or calls for a performance-based solution under C/VM2, we help identify the approach that best fits your design intent and NZBC requirements. Not sure which pathway is right for your project? Come talk to us. Services can also include construction monitoring through to completion.

Fire Protection Design

Active systems designed for performance and compliance.

Specification and design of active fire protection systems - sprinklers, fire alarms, smoke control, and emergency warning systems. Because this work sits closely alongside our fire engineering design services, clients get the benefit of a genuine one-stop shop, with both disciplines developed together rather than as separate, disconnected pieces.

Passive Fire Design

Maintaining compartmentation through practical design.

Performance-based design of building services penetrations through fire separations, specifying the right products and methods to maintain compartmentation where services pass through walls, floors, and ceilings. We work from performance specifications, giving contractors the flexibility to detail and coordinate the solution as part of a design and build approach.

Due Diligence Assessments

Independent insight before critical decisions.

Independent fire safety assessments for property acquisition, refinancing, or portfolio review - identifying compliance gaps, remediation works, and risk exposure before you commit.

Peer Review Services

Independent review for confidence and clarity.

Independent technical review of fire engineering reports and designs prepared by others, assessed against the relevant NZBC C clauses, giving councils, developers, and project teams a second opinion on technical merit.

We bring experience across a wide range of building types and sectors, from major commercial towers and national healthcare portfolios to schools, correctional facilities, and heritage buildings. That breadth means we understand the specific compliance pathways, stakeholders, and practical constraints that come with each sector - and bring that context to every project we take on.
